I wouldn't say Casino Royale is up there with best movies, but hey, it's your opinion!
I did, though, really like the movie, but I went into the theatre with my doubts. However, the opening scene with the freerunner just grabbed me with it's use of fight choreography and cinematography. The plot was okay, though I did not like the character who weeped blood. The audience never really learns of the significance of that characteristic. That's one thing that bugged me about the movie: the lack of character development. However, I doubt that was the aim of the storywriters in the making of the movie. The rest of the movie, on the other hand, had me engaged till the final line. I was impressed with the situations that Bond was involved in; they were quite original, and a nice break from car chases and gun fights. Though I have to say, I yelled out in horror when he flipped the Aston Martin over and over and over...the man seated next to me laughed when I did. Overall, I found it entertaining, and certainly not what I expected from a Bond movie. "Bond, James Bond."
By the way, the whipping part was quite the effective form of torture and quite painful to watch, even for a chick! What part was it, Chev, that you found corny? |

lol, when he flipped the car. I watched closely and there was no reason for him to flip the car. On a european supercar the suspension would be tuned stiff to reduce weight transfer. If a car has an insane amount of body roll it might flip if you turn too hard but even then it's very unlikely. But a stiff euro super car on a 12 foot wide road would never flip, because it would have to take a super wide turn then steer inward drastically. But even then its probably impossible to flip a car like that by itself. If someone did steer drastically like that the car would just over steer and slide off the road anyway. But you know as a car guy I catch things like that instantly lol. And yah I got a headache watching that rope scene (dont give too much stuff away). And also the beginning was my favourite part if you were wondering. |

Haha, yeah the car flip wasn't all too believable, even for a person like me who knows nothing about cars.
I saw MI:3, and it was full of corn. The action was cliched, the acting was melodramatic, and I fell asleep during an action scene. I found the plot to have holes in it, and I think it was completely pointless to have the characters pursuing something in such a vigilant manner while knowing absolutely nothing about it!! Whatever the heck the rabbit's foot is isn't even revealed to the audience for heaven's sake!! *sigh. |

I have to agree with your analyis of the movie. I didn't really like it much either. It had too much of an Alias feel to me and the "rabbit's foot" is what is known in movies as a MacGuffen: A MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or Maguffin) is a plot device that motivates the characters and advances the story, but has little other relevance to the story.
The director and producer Alfred Hitchcock popularized both the term "MacGuffin" and the technique. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Hitchcock explained the term in a 1939 lecture at Columbia University: "[W]e have a name in the studio, and we call it the 'MacGuffin.' It is the mechanical element that usually crops up in any story. In crook stories it is always the necklace and in spy stories it is always the papers." - from Wikipedia
The first time I heard of a MacGuffin was in Pulp Fiction in which the briefcase motivated most of the characters but was never actually revealed. It was much better used in a much better movie. |

| I saw Mission Impossible 3 recently as well. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but I actually didn't mind it. Then again, I wasn't expecting much from the movie. I have to say, I think if they had revealed what the Rabbit's foot was it would have been anti climatic. I actually liked that they left that part of the movie hanging- it just seems that any concrete answer they gave wouldn't be powerful enough. |

| I recently watched the mini-series The Lost Room. I was very sceptical at first because the premise sounded kind of goofy. But, wow, it was a great story with underlying themes about the nature of reality, of who we are, of our world and other possible dimensions. In Canada, it aired on Space; I think it aired on Showtime or something like that in the states. All the reviews of it compare it to Heroes and Lost. I'm really hoping it'll come out on DVD so I can watch it again in anamorphic with 5.1 sound. If you get a chance, you should all check it out. Peter Krause (6 Feet Under and Sports Night) did a superb job and many of the other characters are hilarious. It's rare that my husband wants to watch something again right away but we had to debate whether or not to delete if off the HDD but we did so we can hopefully see it in proper sound and video modes. |

I just finished watching Hard Candy. I loved it. First, to comment on the tech aspects: I love the experimentation with digital coloring. Though some of the transitions seemed kind of abrupt and not so subtle, I think it worked really well. The use of color in the movie also resonated with me, and I think it added alot to the intensity of the film. The cinematography was well done as well, for it kept the pacing and excitement at a level where it kept the audience's interest, and yet it wasn't distracting from the dialogue or acting. I actually enjoyed the use of tight close ups, because it gave alot of power to the characters.
On the acting aspect: I thought that Ellen Page did very well in her role, giving us that sense of innocence and weakness while still conveying the power she has over Jeff. I also like how the movie focuses on the character relationship and development as opposed to the plot advancement. I won't go to deep into my opinion of the film's thematic elements, because I'm still trying to think that through! But I did find the film amazing, and am so glad that I finally got around to watching it
Oh, and that castration scene was simply painful, even for a female. It didn't involve any actually footage of the castration, and yet...OUCH. |

| I was thinking about renting Thank You For Smoking but never got around to it. Most of my movie watching experience has been tainted by too many disney original movies (thanks to my lil sisters) The last movie I saw in theatres was Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the Beggining) I thought it was pretty funny. |

The last movie I saw in the theatres was Saw III, which I adored.
I have recently watched the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift again. More importantly, I viewed the foreign movie, "2064," which somehow managed to captivate me, though it was a romance movie. Romance definitely is not my favourite genre. I can't help it, though. xD
On a side note, the only thing I find a bit irritating about Masters of Horror is that every time I've tried to watch it, there has been not-so-necessary smut scenes. I mean, I don't usually complain about it, because it's so common in the media these days, but really now! I want to watch horror. Maybe I've just been unlucky in the ones I manage to catch on TV, which is entirely possible. Sigh. |

It's a long standing joke in the horror genre that the killer is gonna go after the people having sex. So now you can't have a horror film w/out somebody getting some. Think about all of the Friday the 13th movie. Or pretty much any slasher movie. People drop their pants, oh here comes the killer.
BTW I liked Tokyo Drift but I think 2 Fast 2 Furious is the best out of all three. And Saw III kicked ass. I absolutely loved that movie. Though I have yet to see I & II, I understood everything. |
