Saw the preview for ep 13.
Troubled by his visions of his blowing up New York, Peter goes out to Nevada to do the whole John the Baptist thing and become a desert hermit. The Nevada desert also happens to be where Ted the Radioactive Man is hiding out refining his control over his powers or whatever he's doing in that shack. Peter, it appears, will flee to Nevada to escape causing the explosion and in going to Nevada meet the man who will make him be the cause of it.
Anyone here remember the first season finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Remember how Buffy went to fight The Master instead of waiting for him to come to her? And remember how her going in after him was what led to her defeat and allowed The Master to rise? Based on the preview for ep 13 of "Heroes", it looks like Peter is going to wander into a virtually identical situation.
Wonder if Joss Whedon is doing some uncredited consulting on "Heroes". Now THAT would be killers, am I right?

As soon as I saw the title of your thread, I got very excited!! And you are so right. It is the same situation that Buffy was in in the season 1 finale. It actually goes all the way back to Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. In that ancient story, the oracle at Delphi tells Oedipus's parents that he will murder his father and marry his mother so they send him to a distant kingdom to be raised by another king and queen. Because he doesn't know his real parents, he ends up killing his father and marrying his mother.
But I think Joss should get some credit for modernizing the idea. And, on that note, he should also be credited by Smallville for the episode last night in which Clark hallucinates that he isn't a superhero but is really in an insane asylum. Buffy did it first and so much better in the season 6 episode "Normal Again." Haunting and ever so dark, it's one of the best Buffy episodes ever!!! |
