Summary: Nathan receives some campaign help from his wife, Heidi (Rena Sofer); a crisis involving Micah prompts Niki to reveal her personal struggles to a friend; Matt finds himself immersed in the investigation of another bizarre murder possibly committed by Sylar; Hiro comes to doubt his own heroism; and Claire discovers the whereabouts of her missing tape.

I think for me the highlight of this episode was when Hiro stopped time again. It was so great to see him get his confidence and enthusiasm back and he DID save them. And how funny that he had to slowly move them away and was so exhausted when he was done.

I'm wondering...when did Niki find out that evil Niki is called Jessica. It was an awfully awkward way to introduce it. Would have been better if she had said something like, "She told me her name is Jessica."

And what was with that weird special effect with Claire's blood. She had wiped it away and it somehow reformed into a drop. Is her blood intelligent? Or do all of her parts, (hehe), just somehow naturally try to go back to where they belong? And damn, did that sound awkward! Twisted Evil

And why the hell did Nathan lie to Peter about the picture. He got Linderman to send it to him but then told Peter he didn't. Maybe he is more interested in being a super hero than he lets on. Maybe he wants to save the world himself.....

I also liked seeing Hiro be frustrated with his limits. After all, he doesn't have super-strength. It is cool that they are making a point to show that aspect of the heroes. Another good example was when Nikki/Jessica hit D.L. with the briefcase. In the other scenes where he passed through stuff, he seemed to need to concentrate at least momentarily to do so. She swung too fast for him, and did a Buffy on him (knocked him 10 feet away with one hit).

Oh, and not to be too picky, but I have to air a gripe: if you can hit a grown man hard enough to do that, you're probably going to at least break a rib or two. He got up off his ass and recovered awfully quickly.

I dislike Nathan more all the time. He's gotta be Sylar *evil laugh*

Seriously, keeping the painting is nothing more than a ploy to keep the advantage over his little brother. He doesn't want Peter to overshadow him in any way, or make a "fool" of Nathan by trying to be a hero. The guy does nothing without selfish motives and ambitions. I think he only flew to catch Peter so his election wouldn't be clouded by it. Jerk! If he wants to be the hero, he has a long way to go since heroes have at least a sybolance of integrity.

In the online Graphic Novel, Nathan flew into a burning building and rescued someone. He did it in secret, and later she said she was rescued by an angel. However, he managed to slip in a "Vote for Petrelli" button into her pocket.

Typical politician, eh?

Later this week I'll be adding a new section for those reading the online graphic novel. Not sure whether or not to put it into the spoilers section. Thanks for the info. You should join us officially!!

I kind of suspected that deep down, Nathan was a better person than we were being lead to believe. The evil politician is something of a cliche.

And I agree with you about D.L., barscotch. He didn't even take any real damage from that Buffy throw and it did stretch believablility. One thing about this show that makes it unique is grounding super heroes in reality as XFiles did with aliens.

I just know that they will get better. It's only the first season and when I look at season 1 of almost any show, they got a lot better by season 2.

I personally sort of like Nathan. It's interesting to see someone completely rejecting his power, as there is no character who so far seems to be doing that. Even Claire recognizes the useful side to her power and is utilizing it (for example, retrieving her ring when it went down the garbage disposal.) But Nathan is almost ashamed of it. In a real life situation, some people would respond like that, and the writers are being true to human nature by having his character. I also found it interesting that his wife practically asked him to lie to her. She'd rather have hope than truth. Once again, this characterization was so strong, it gave me an immediate impression of her, far more than any dialouge did. If all the characters were like Hiro and completely enamoured with the fact they are 'super' humans, the story would get old fast. This isn't an action show, it's also a study of human behaviour.
Anyways, just needed to defend Nathan. Wink

That is a good point, Imaginethat...

Simply because a person has an extraordinary ability doesn't mean they will have an extraordinary sense of self. I think that's what I like most about most superhero stories, and "Heroes" in particular: Hiro used his ability to cheat at gambling, D.L. used his to commit crimes rather than fight them, and Jessica/Nikki used her powers to fight bad guys, but one could make the argument that she sort of overdid it; and of course, Nathan tries to completely hide his powers from people.

However, I personally happen to agree with Hiro: if you are afraid to use your power, you don't deserve to have it.

BS

Welcome Imaginethat! Wow. I love your analysis of Nathan. And his wife. That's exactly what she was asking him to do. And I think they must have an unspoken understanding that there are certaint things they don't discuss, like her blaming him for the accident which crippled her.

On another note, a friend just saw this ep and says that the mailman in the scene in which Claire and her friend are chasing around her brother was wearing a baseball hat and looked suspicious. He thinks it was Sylar. I haven't had the chance to rewatch this one. Anyone else notice that? If you have a screenie, please post it.

I noticed at the very beginning, Peter was reading a newspaper and the front cover had a picture and article about an upcoming solar eclipse. I thought that somehow, the collision of the characters' powers would have caused it. If it's in the newspaper however, everyone must be aware of it in advance..
Does anyone remember what the background looked like when Hiro saw the explosion? Night or day?

Thanks BA for the welcome Very Happy

I'm pretty sure it was day but I'll search through NBC's screenies and check. The eclipse is definitely tied to their powers and to their fate. It's the logo for the show Idea
