Is Sylar the same person as the cheerleaders dad?

I don't think so. He seems to have remorse (all the "Forgive me" messages in his apartment in the hidden room).

I've read on other forums how others have speculated he is a "dark hero" like Batman Dark Knight...

but I don't ever remember Batman ever taking people's brains out or trying to kidnap a little girl...but we really don't know who this little girl is.

Also, he seems to be doing research like Batman in reading about brains and may be cutting people's heads open to examine their brains for a greater good.

I thought that he might have the ability to absorb other...I don't want to say mutant, um is there a term for them on this show? If you say mutant it sounds to X-men. Anyway I thought he might absorb the others powers by eating their brains. wasn't there something in the apartment that the genetsist found that lead to cannibalisim???? Question Confused

I really don't think that Sylar is Claire's dad. In fact, I've read theories that Claire's dad is actually not a bad guy as that would be too obvious.

I think Sylar is definitely trying to get the brains of other heroes...whether he is eating them or extracting DNA or something else, I think he has already taken others' powers as he seems to have more than one ability. He is invulnerable, can fly, has the power of telekinesis. I don't think it's a Rogue like absorbing ability though - see my post in the characters section on Nathan to see why.

I'm not sure but it's clear from the last two episodes that he has the power to dampen or stop other heroes from using their abilities. So, obviously Claire's father had access to Mohinder's father's research or has been doing some of his own. I would hate to find out that he's a gov't man - that's kind of been done to death.

You know, we don't actually know that the african american man with Claire's dad is Sylar. I mean, there are other people with those abilities, maybe Claire's dad gave the guy more abilities so he could compete with Sylar. Or something like that. It's fun to speculate though.

But my opinion is that Sylar seems to be a man reeling from his own personal torment. It was as if he was an experiment for Mohinders (sp?) father. If indeed he was a lab rat then wouldn't he want some sort of vengence? I know I would. That might explain the "forgive me" written all across the room, if he killed people. But the "forgive me" stuff doesn't explain why he keeps killing. Perhaps Sylar is a scientist with abilities who wants to explore the human brain further, to see how humans can develop these abilities. Right now, we don't know. But it seems that Sylar is the bad guy, when he might not be.

Hey all, first post. Great show, eh?

Weighing in, I think maybe Sylar is going to be sort of a parllel to the movie version of Magneto in X-men in that he is not 100%-hate-everyone evil. I think he's eating superhumans' brains to gain their powers, which he does in order to fight the evil government guys (or whoever Claire's dad works for) who want to kill all the superhumans or control them. That might sort of explain why he has multiple powers(can fly, use telekinesis, can freeze people, and is impervious to bullets).

There is a theory that Sylar is Peter from the future. I've seen screen caps of Sylar when he briefly appeared and he is white, with a slight layer of beard, which has some white in it. His face is a similar shape to Peter's and since Hiro said to Peter, "Be the one we need," I think it is a possibility. However, Dr. Suresh's working with Sylar and teaching him about his power doesn't really fit with that since we see Peter in the now.

When asked about the screen caps, NBC responded that the actor who played Sylar in that episode is not necessarily the one who will be cast. And they won't say who. But I do know that the voice on the phone (Sylar's), was the voice of an actor who will NOT be playing Sylar.

I think he is a tortured man who always felt the pull towards darkness, but it was working with Dr. Suresh that brought it all to a head. The Please Forgive Me doesn't necessarily mean he is actually contrite as many serial killers feel moments of remorse but never try to find a way to change.

I also think he eats the brians of the superhumans(or whatever you want to call them) to gain their power. Also I don't think Chair's dad is Sylar, nor do I think Peter is Sylar or will become Sylar.

I agree that he is stealing the powers of those he kills but I'm not sure if he's eating the brains exactly. Maybe, by working with the Professor, he discovered what part of the brain the mutations are housed in and he can extract cells and inject them into himself.

I agree with you here. I doubt very highly that the person stealing the brains is actually consuming them. What if Sylar is putting the brains in jars and keeping them "alive"? (Just like all the old, bad B movies or something.) That would suck in a way, but it's better than eating them! I agree tho that he is extracting the mutant gene whether now or keeping the brains "alive" to do it in the future.

Maybe he's stealing their brains, because he's afraid of the one person he can't kill: Claire.

Claire can heal herself, but if her brain was removed, then she would die, wouldn't she?? She couldn't heal herself, and fix her brain, if Sylar had it.

I've heard speculation about Sylar being Claire's biological father, because Mr. Bennet said, "Fourteen years ago, there was such a case, which sadly ended in a death. The woman left behind her daughter..."

He said that to Isaac, which sort of tells us that Clare's mother is dead, but father could be alive.

However, Bennet did not say if the mother was the one with powers. The "case," could have been Claire's dad, and her mother died... and now Sylar is looking to get back at Mr. Bennet for taking his daughter??

Also, the most likely "Sylar is..." speculation, is I think, that Sylar is Linderman. Think about it. We've never seen either of them...
