The Haitian is supposed to be a mysterious character and him not talking adds to that. As for why he doesn't talk...
Considering that he has the ability to interfere with other powers, he is somehow able to enter and disrupt the brain. He can take away memories, for example. Maybe he has used that ability on people only to find he is seriously disturbed by what he finds there- for example, Brody. As a result he has withdrawn inside himself as it's safer than what he has seen in some of humanity.
Or it just makes him creepier. Either way. |

Yeah, that makes sense.
Like I said before, he probably acts as a magician's blind stage hand. HRG carries out things/talks about his mission and never worries about the Haitian saying anything to betray him because the man can't explain it.
But that isn't the case anymore. |

I like the theory about a blind stage hand. HRG doesn't seem to trust anyone but the Haitian, probably because of the man's muteness.
The Haitian also speaks with an accent, so maybe the character isn't supposed to know much english. It would be pretty ironic- language is a huge form of communication, but the Haitian can do without it and still understand a person on a different level. He can see and erase their memories. |

That could actually be the case. Maybe he's just really introspective. |

That's the real mystery isn't it?
IMO - the Haitian has an agenda that is of higher importance than even HRG. I honestly doubt HRG knows the Haitian can speak at all, though. I think he's more of an inside plant for whomever HRG works for.
Or could he perhaps even be HRG's superior???
Ah I love the mystery of it all... |

I do love the irony you pointed out. A man who can steal our memories and the things that help to define who we are and he can't communicate. Of course, now we know he can...
I agree that HRG doesn't know he can talk. And that he has a different and possibly more noble agenda than HRG does. I don't think he's his superior since they were the ones who ordered him to keep Sylar alive when the danger he posed was extreme. |

| Personally, I wish the Haitian never spoke. Wouldn't it be a thousand times better if he talked to Claire using some kind of mind power. Like you'd hear a wispy voice in the background. And it would be cool for affect too because it would add to the eeriness of him, and it could be used to forsee that he would be around or if he's coming soon. Imagine 2 heroes conversing and all of a sudden you think you hear some kind of wisper...hehe. And also about HRG and the Haitian having a conversation, I think HRG was just giving the Haitian a briefing on things to come, or sumthin or other. |
